1999 McCray Ridge Merlot ~ Two Moon Vineyard
Wine Enthusiast ~ 93
A very good
Merlot, with near-perfect fruit, balanced between blackberries and
olives...
The wine has the elusive quality of elegance.

Complex. Vibrant.
Sweet, yet modest cherry & black cherry
fruit flavors.
A young wine; will age well.

Aromas of
chocolate, smoke, black raspberry; blackberry, and currant. All continue on to the fairly big palate, which adds cinnamon
and plenty of fine tannin before a short, medium broad finish. Very Nice
now, it should be even nicer in a year when the tannins will be in better
balance.

Big, black and impenetrable. At
first it seems super-ripe, if not bruised.
But time shows it to be solid, dense, with black cherry and
apple-skin character hinting at edges.
More time will tell; cellar it.

puff
If showing a certain kinship to its older sibling
(the 1998) by way of body and a note of finishing toughness, this bottling
is deeper and more consistent in fruit with a bit of succulence missing in
the 1998. It ends a bit
bluntly just now, but we like its chances
for improvement.
